After the amazing success of the premiere episode of MONDAY NIGHT FUEL, the Formula-X Series looks to continue the streak with last night’s episode. But while the racing continues on the Fuel Speedway, the F-X reporters decided to do some digging into the expression “sports entertainment”.
In the past, the term sports entertainment had exclusively been used by the wrestling industry to describe their place in the world of sports. While the expression has been adopted by other professions like Roller Derby and American Gladiators, it has yet to reach the world of motorsports… until now.
“We felt that it was important that we call our brand of racing sports entertainment because we created it to entertain people.” These words were spoken by Vice President of the Formula-X Racing Club.
After doing more digging, the F-X reporters discovered that the expression sports entertainment is simply the combination of athleticism and showmanship which definitely fits the brand of racing sports combined with entertainment.
Despite all these definitions, there is one sore point that plagues the sports entertainment label: which is the legitimacy of the race outcomes. Well not only have Moodswing and Glenwood Jacobs gone on record to say that the races are real, but the racers themselves have expressed similar sentiments during interviews off the track.
So perhaps, as it stands, the Formula-X Series can go a long way to legitimize sports entertainment beyond the squared circle.
